Starting pitcher Al Huicochea pitched well enough to help the Dallas Wranglers beat the New York Empires, 4-3. Barry Gilmore earned the save, his 13th in 16 tries. Dallas improves to 93-48 with the win. They lead their division by 13½ games.

Rodney Holt, the six-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Holt contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Dallas up, 3-2.

"I was a little disappointed," said New York manager John Harris. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
