Explorers Top New York, 10-9
|
Rob Lockner did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Knickerbockers from losing, 10-9, to the St. Louis Explorers at Corps of Discovery Stadium. Lockner went 2 for 6 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Jack Guthrie came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. St. Louis, at 84-59, is 7 games up in the National Baseball League Western Division.
The Explorers procured the win, in large part because of second baseman Steve Rolf. In the bottom of the 15th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"It was terrific getting this win," Rolf said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
