Starting pitcher Steve Coomes fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Dallas Wranglers stymie the San Francisco Seagulls, 5-1. The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Wranglers are 89-54.

Dick Howard had a big solo home run for the Wranglers in the bottom of the third inning. With Dallas leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 11-year veteran Arturo Lopez and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Wranglers on top, 2-0.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Coomes told the Dallas Herald.
