Boston Loses, 4-3, in 14
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Atlantic Avenue Grounds.
The Detroit Wolverines overcame a big game from Boston first baseman Ralph King to pick up a win at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The final score was 4-3, Detroit, in 14 innings. King went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Elmer Bernstein, now 3-3, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 1.
Detroit needed the clutch hitting of Jerry Plumley to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the 14th inning to put the Wolverines on top, 4-3. For the game, Plumley had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
Detroit manager Alex Wobbema commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
With the win, the Wolverines hiked their record to 77-66.
