Eagles Top Blockbusters in Extras, 5-2
|
Jerry Duersch was a major factor in the 5-2 Washington win over Los Angeles. The Eagles second baseman went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Charlie Tovar, 8-7, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. Washington is last in the National Baseball League Eastern Division with a record of 64-79.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With two out, Duersch hit a changeup from Mark Evert for a 3-run home run. The Eagles, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
In postgame remarks, Duersch simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
