Northmen 2-0 Winners Versus Chicago
|
Gerald Gross, the 2nd overall pick in the 1969 draft, never let the Hawks get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the Northmen to a win, 2-0. The winning pitcher was Gross, now 6-14. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 8. Steve Eaton was credited with the save, his 8th in 9 tries.
The Northmen got a big at-bat from first baseman David Davalos. For the game, Davalos was 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 18th double of the season gave Twin Cities a 1-0 lead.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Gross.
The Northmen raised their record to 61-83.
