The Denver Burros welcomed the San Diego Captains to an afternoon game at Gates Crescent Park.

Denver parlayed a decent outing from starter Frank Combs into a solid win over the San Diego Captains. The final score was 5-3. Denver reliever Dan Valenti got the win, raising his record to 11-2. Ed Prater was tagged with the loss.

Denver took a 5-3 lead on Kevin Gunn's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Gunn hit in the bottom of the eighth, left San Diego pitcher Ed Prater visibly frustrated.

"Frank did a good job of managing their lineup," said Denver manager Clark Anderson.

The Burros lead the National Baseball League Western Division by 2½ games.
