Burros Absorb 5-2 Home Loss
|
San Diego pitcher Ray Heath did his part in helping his team defeat the Denver Burros, 5-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Heath, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1969, went the distance for San Diego. He gave up 2 runs on 10 hits. The first-place Captains, at 89-55, now lead their division by 2½ games.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Randy Barnes? The San Diego left fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Captains on top, 1-0. For the game, Barnes had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I'm happy we won," said Heath. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
