Hurons Come Up Short at Baltimore, 2-1
|
Dan Crumm pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Toronto Hurons, despite Crumm's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Baltimore Lords at Seton Hill Stadium. The winning pitcher was reigning Royal Ricketts Award winner Larry Diego. He tossed 75 pitches over 5 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits. Gustavo Melendez finished the game for Baltimore and earned his 2nd save.
Baltimore left fielder Lew Ward contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a curveball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 100th hit of the season and put the Lords ahead, 2-0.
"Good ballgame," said Toronto manager Jim Burns. "But we came up on the short end."
With the victory, the Lords record stands at 82-63.
