Habitants Win at Houston, 6-1
|
Montreal used a superb performance from starting pitcher Al Johns to down the Houston Drillers, 6-1. Johns, the winner, moves to 7-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 1 walk. With the win, Montreal raised its record to 77-69.
Bob Madaras, the 24-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Madaras contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put Montreal up, 3-0.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Madaras told the Montreal Daily News. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
