Empires Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The New York Empires besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Atlanta second baseman Roberto Palacios by beating the Generals, 7-6, at Atlantic Station Field. Palacios was 3-5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. New York reliever Dave Kretz picked up the win to move to 6-4. Renie White suffered the loss. By defeating Atlanta, the second-place Empires improved to 74-72.
Starting Pitcher Jack Neenan made an impact for New York, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Ron Cwiklinski in the top of the fifth. For the contest, Neenan threw 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs.
"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Neenan.
