The Philadelphia Quakers took Brooklyn pitcher Kevin Wade's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Quakers Stadium. The final score had Philadelphia getting past the Bluebirds, 2-1. Wade went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 4. The win went to Darrell Klug in relief. His record improves to 13-5. Bob Hill took the loss. Philadelphia now has a record of 85-63 with the win.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jim Vadnais in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 31-year old right-handed pitcher Bob Hill to win the game for Philadelphia. The home crowd went nuts.

"Some games build character," said Philadelphia manager Jeff Green. "Like this one."
