Hawks Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
The Chicago Hawks eked out a 2-1 win versus the Twin Cities Northmen at Hyde Park Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Mike Haskett. He was terrific. Haskett, now 5-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Kevin Edwards earned the save, his 5th in 6 tries.
In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Gene Malone gave Chicago the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Hawks had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out single off Twin Cities pitcher Ben Hall changed that -- and Chicago went on to win.
"Mike's a gamer," said Chicago manager Mike Flaherty. "Glad he's on our side."
The win puts Chicago at 59-88.
