The Houston Drillers trumped the Dallas Wranglers, 5-3, at Bluff Park. Houston left fielder Randy Barnes was terrific. He was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Angel Colon picked up the win, lifting his record to 10-9 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 3 in 6 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Earning his 26th save of the year was Tom McAteer.

Jim Johnson dealt the Wranglers a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Houston leading 3-2, Johnson hit a 1-0 sinker for a run-scoring single.

Houston manager Tom Harrington called it "a darn good win."
