Industrials Beat Brooklyn, 4-3
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials had to overcome a fine effort from Brooklyn pitcher Damon Rutherford to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Flatbush Park. Rutherford went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Dick Witt earned the win to go to 17-5. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. Pittsburgh leads the National Baseball League Eastern Division by 18½ games.
Pittsburgh used a clutch hit from Don Keough to get the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Industrials ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Keough told the Pittsburgh Chronicle. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
