Wolverines Drop Terriers, 5-0
|
Elmer Bernstein, the 20th overall pick in the 1970 draft, had a strong outing for the Detroit Wolverines against the Boston Terriers at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-0 win. Detroit reliever Elmer Bernstein got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Bruce Shurtleff was tagged with the loss. The American Baseball League Eastern Division-leading Wolverines have a record of 89-63.
The Wolverines got a gift in the top of the fourth inning, when they were leading 1-0. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Randy Cowell reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-0, Detroit.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Cowell told reporters after the game.
