The inspired effort of St. Louis left fielder Tommy Pickett was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Washington Eagles. Pickett went 4-4 with 4 singles. He scored 2 runs. The win was credited to Richie Kingery in relief. His record improves to 11-6. Bernie Tate took the loss. The Eagles go to 61-92 with the win.

Washington used the timely hitting of Gary Long to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Eagles on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Long told the Washington Daily News.
