Explorers Drop Close One Late
The San Diego Captains took St. Louis pitcher Dave Gilson's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium. The final score had San Diego getting past the Explorers, 3-2. Gilson went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 3. San Diego is now 70-86, St. Louis 87-68.

San Diego used the timely hitting of Earl Peters to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Captains on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

San Diego manager Joe Mack commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
