Bulls Squeeze By St. Louis, 2-1
|
The St. Louis Explorers got a superb performance from pitcher Jorge Gonzalez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Kansas City. The Bulls won the game, 2-1. Gonzalez threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. Tom Mitchell was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Bernie Tate. The win elevated the Bulls to 90-67.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Kansas City trailing 1-0, Mario Alva hit a fastball from Bernie Tate to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Bulls had a walk-off win.
"Every loss stings," said St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood. "This one is no exception."
