Eagles Prevail, 4-2, Over New York
|
The Washington Eagles faced a tough opponent in New York pitcher Chris Hull, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Monument Field by a final score of 4-2. Hull went 0 innings and allowed no runs. The win belongs to Tom McAteer in relief. His record improves to 8-4. Jose Espinoza took the loss for New York. The Eagles, at 73-85, have now won 4 straight.
Had John Ellison not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Ellison hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Eagles.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Ellison told the Washington News.
