Drillers Pin 6-2 Loss on Toronto
|
The Houston Drillers got a stellar performance from pitcher Mike Brown, who handcuffed the Toronto offense en route to a win, 6-2, at Dominion Field. Brown yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 2-0. Tom McAteer saved it for Houston.
Houston used the timely hitting of Jerry Duersch to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Drillers on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
Duersch expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
With the loss, Toronto sinks to 8-8.
