|
Though he had a great game, Bob Boyle could not single-handedly produce a win for Pittsburgh. New York won the game, 3-2. Boyle went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. New York starter Mike Gresley was credited with the win after throwing 101 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 3-1. New York goes to 78-81, Pittsburgh to 88-71.
The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from catcher Hank Cummings. For the game, Cummings was 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave New York a 3-1 lead.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker, "let me know."
