San Diego took on Los Angeles in front of a lively crowd.

The San Diego Captains topped the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 9-2, in National Baseball League action at San Diego Sporting Complex. The game was highlighted by the performance of San Diego pitcher Ray McKenzie. San Diego, now 79-81, holds down 4th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.

Reynaldo Bernal had a big 2-run double for the Captains in the bottom of the third inning. With San Diego trailing 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from Fernando Lopez, who finished 5th in the NBL in innings pitched with 256.1 in 1969, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Captains ahead, 3-2.

"I had pretty good command out there," said McKenzie.
