Knickerbockers Upend Quakers, 10-5
|
The New York Knickerbockers defeated the Philadelphia Quakers, 10-5, at Quakers Stadium today. Leading the charge for New York was third baseman Bob Kappen. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Jack Forbes, credited with the win, is now 14-10. He allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 9 innings. New York is 5th in the National Baseball League Eastern Division with a record of 78-83.
New York relied on the hitting of Wayne Baker to pick up the win. The right fielder ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the second inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 2-0. For the game, Baker had 1 triple and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I hate to be the fly in the ointment," said Baker, "but we could've played better."
