The New York Empires knocked off the Boston Terriers, 5-4, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. New York pitcher and Beecher, Illinois, native Jon Pierce had an outstanding performance. Earning the save was Jack Pratt. He's now cashed in 22 of 28 save opportunities. The last-place Terriers have lost 8 consecutive games.

New York second baseman Javier Abarca helped the Empires go up, 5-4, in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Abarca hit a run-scoring single off Boston pitcher Ken Torkelson.
