Cincinnati got a first-rate effort from pitcher John Stoddard, who frustrated Cleveland hitters en route to a 3-1 Packers triumph at Lakefront Stadium. Picking up his 4th save was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Montgomery. With this game in the books, Cincinnati is 67-95, Cleveland 78-84.

Jerry Anderson, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in runs scored with 95, had a direct impact on the outcome. Anderson contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-1.

"Every loss hurts," said Cleveland manager Daniel Mays. "But this was a tough one."
