A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the New York Knickerbockers and Philadelphia Quakers.

Dave Torre never let the Quakers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Knickerbockers to a win, 5-1. Torre, the winner, moves to 13-11. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 4 walks.

It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Jim Fulkerson, the 33-year old second baseman . Fulkerson contributed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put New York up, 1-0.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Torre said after the game.

The 'W' lifts New York's record to 79-83.
