The San Diego Captains and St. Louis Explorers played an exciting game.

The San Diego Captains got a strong performance from pitcher Ray McKenzie, who stymied the St. Louis offense en route to a win, 4-2, at San Diego Sporting Complex. The Explorers fall to 7-10 and continue their rocky start to the 1977 season.

In the top of the ninth, Kevin Campbell stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Explorers were trailing 4-2, but had the bases loaded. That's when Jack DeWitt made a terrific pitch and Campbell grounded out. Gone was the dream of a St. Louis comeback.
