Wolverines Topple Empires with Late Rally
|
The Detroit Wolverines topped the New York Empires, 5-3, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Detroit pitcher John Fredrick. Fredrick went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-1. The Wolverines, now 14-6, have hit the ground running this season.
The outcome might have been different for Detroit, had it not been for Clinton Chitwood, the 29-year old second baseman . Chitwood stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Detroit up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Chitwood. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
