League Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Witt and Pittsburgh
|
The League Championship Series got off to a quiet start today, with the host Pittsburgh Industrials taking a low-scoring 1-0 win over the St. Louis Explorers. Pittsburgh right-hander Dick Witt was marvelous at Allegheny Field. The Industrials now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Witt was in the zone all game. He frustrated St. Louis hitters while giving the Industrials 8 innings of quality work. Witt threw 102 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 6 punchouts.
"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Witt told the Pittsburgh Chronicle. "And padding the Pittsburgh win column."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Allegheny Field in Pittsburgh.
