The Denver Burros have a critical edge over the Pittsburgh Industrials in the League Championship Series, thanks to the veteran arm of Juan Ramirez.

Ramirez, 32, put on a dominant performance at Allegheny Field, leading the Burros to victory, 5-0, in a pivotal Game 5. Denver is now one game away from the World Series, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Pittsburgh will need to win both remaining games to advance.

The famously hardworking Ramirez handled the Industrials all day, notching 8 strikeouts in 8 innings while allowing 5 hits. Ramirez, who finished 3rd in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1973, goes to 2-1 on the year with 22 strikeouts.

"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Denver manager Clark Anderson. "That's what Juan is right now."

Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at Gates Crescent Park in Denver.
