Northmen Stumble, Lose to Empires
|
Twin Cities had no answer for New York Empires hurler Elliot Diehl, who overwhelmed Northmen hitters as the Empires coasted to victory, 8-0. The winning pitcher was Diehl, now 1-2. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. The Northmen fall to 7-13 and continue to sputter in the early going.
New York relied on the hitting of Ken Schilling to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empires on top, 8-0. For the game, Schilling had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Schilling told the New York Daily.
