In a close game at San Diego Sporting Complex, the Cincinnati Packers edged the San Diego Captains, 5-4. Cincinnati third baseman Roger Bruno stood apart with his performance. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. San Diego drops to 9-14.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Stan Timmons came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing San Diego pitcher Brian Meade, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 5-4.
"Winning is great," Bruno said. "It's always just guys picking each other up -- if not me, then the next guy."
