Eagles Lose By a Run at St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Explorers earned a close win over the Washington Eagles, thanks in part to Bob Trout. The St. Louis right-hander, who finished 5th in the NBL in innings pitched with 259.2 in 1975, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Trout, now 4-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bernie Tate earned the save for St. Louis, his 4th.
Charlie Bartels drew 1 walk for St. Louis. The fan favorite had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Pat Sullivan. It was his 3rd walk of the season.
"I feel like we're rolling now," Bartels told the St. Louis Observer."The dugout is coming alive."
The Eagles fall to 8-15 and continue their lackluster start in 1977.
