The St. Louis Explorers got a marvelous performance from pitcher Bruce Cardenas. The right-hander kept the Denver offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 2-1 St. Louis victory at Gates Crescent Park. Bernie Tate recorded the save for St. Louis, his 5th of the season. The loss drops Denver to 16-9.

Bob Raab, who finished 4th in the ABL in RBI with 101 in 1971, helped out the St. Louis cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the first baseman was 1-3 with 2 walks.

"Very good win for our guys," said Raab.
