Empires Pop Hawks, 10-2
|
The New York Empires took Chicago pitcher Bobby Peters's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Hyde Park Stadium. The final score had New York getting past the Hawks, 10-2. Peters went 8.1 innings and allowed 4 runs, striking out 9. Elliot Diehl got the win, improving to 2-2. He worked 6.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. With the loss, Chicago falls to 11-15.
New York relied on the hitting of Ken Schilling to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the fourth inning to put the Empires on top, 2-1. For the game, Schilling had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Good hitting and good pitching is a lethal combination," said Schilling.
