The Chicago Hawks picked up a win at Hyde Park Stadium, dropping the New York Empires, 5-2. Kevin Edwards, who won the Royal Ricketts Award in 1968, was the difference-maker. New York is now 14-13.

Chicago took a 4-2 lead on Bobby Strange's 4th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Strange hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Larry Stanford visibly frustrated.

Strange called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
