Drillers Tally 10-2 Win
|
The Houston Drillers extended their winning streak.
The Houston Drillers defeated the Seattle Emeralds, 10-2, at Puget Field. Houston first baseman Mike Lockhart had a superb performance. He was 2-5 with a home run, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was 28-year old left-handed pitcher Bill Switzer. He tossed 118 pitches over 8.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits.
Lute Eccles had a big bases-clearing double for the Drillers in the top of the first inning. With Houston leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from former first round draft pick Deward Collins and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 4-0.
"Nothing to write home about," Seattle manager Mark Velez said, when asked afterward about the game.
The Drillers have hit the ground running, raising their record to 19-9. While it's still too soon to talk about Houston hoisting their 2nd World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
