Knickerbockers Slap 6-5 Loss on Chicago
|
The New York Knickerbockers topped the Chicago Traders, 6-5, with left fielder Jeff Madsen playing a big role. Madsen was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Knickerbockers in the win. Dave Torre, who led the NBL in strikeouts with 233 in 1967, was the winning pitcher. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Ollie Hundley recorded the save, his 6th.
Early in the game, Madsen had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Knickerbockers on top, 2-0.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Madsen told the New York Today.
The triumph makes New York 19-9, as the team begins another long trek toward the playoffs in 1974.
