The Cincinnati Packers had to overcome a fine effort from Washington pitcher Mike Cooper to win, 7-5, at Roman Arena. Cooper went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win went to Kenny Foster in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Ricky Grill took the loss. The loss drops Washington to 12-16.

Cincinnati center fielder Ron Brown contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a changeup to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 24th hit of the season and put the Packers ahead, 6-3.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Brown told the Cincinnati Citizen.
