Chicago Gets 7-2 Win
|
The timely hitting of Mark Morris helped the Chicago Hawks down the Dallas Wranglers, 7-2. Morris was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Hawks. The winning pitcher was Ron Woods. He tossed 115 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. The loss makes Dallas 18-11.
Ray Gardner had a big run-scoring double for the Hawks in the top of the second inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Barry Gilmore, who finished 2nd in the ABL in strikeouts with 193 in 1970, and swatted a double to center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hawks ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager William Albrecht: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
