Emeralds Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Seattle Emeralds earned a close win over the Houston Drillers, thanks in part to Tim McDonald. The Seattle left-hander, who finished 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 169 in 1970, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Dooley Brewer earned the save for Seattle, his 1st. The Drillers fall to 13-16 and continue to sputter in the early going.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Al Link to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Emeralds on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Tim had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Seattle manager Mark Velez.
