Detroit got a decent performance from pitcher Juan Rodriguez, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Empires. New York won the Wolverine Field contest, 4-3. Rodriguez threw 9.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The winning pitcher was Larry Stanford. His record now stands at 5-1. The left-hander went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for the Empires. The Empires raised their record to 22-7.

Lowell Bickle, who finished 5th in the ABL in batting average with .308 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Bickle contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 4-3.

"We've got a great group of guys," Bickle said, "and we're having fun right now."
