Empires Win by Slim Margin, 4-3
|
It was pandemonium at Queens Field after an exciting walk-off win.
The performance of Irv Olson proved critical in helping New York beat Twin Cities, 4-3. The Empires first baseman was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The Northmen, now 10-19 this season, have struggled to play .500 ball.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with New York trailing 3-1, Olson hit a sinker from Curt Kirkley for a 3-run home run, giving the Empires the walk-off win.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Olson said.
