Knickerbockers Deal Quakers 4-2 Defeat
|
New York and Philadelphia duked it out and the Knickerbockers came out victorious.
Despite a great performance by Philadelphia third baseman Greg Russell, the New York Knickerbockers defeated the Quakers by the score of 4-2 at Quakers Stadium. Russell went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Sid Shafer, the winner, is now 1-1. He struck out 3 and walked 0 over 5 innings, while allowing 1 run on 5 hits.
New York used the hitting of Dave Lester to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 4-0. For the game, Lester had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Lester told the New York Chronicle.
The Quakers fall to 8-22 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1976 season.
