The Chicago Traders downed the San Diego Captains, 9-5, at Union Field. Ed White led the way, going 1-for-4 for Chicago. The win moves Chicago to a record of 18-13.

Fran Precourt had a big bases-clearing double for the Traders in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from Jack DeWitt, who led the NBL in saves with 30 in 1973, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Traders ahead, 4-2.

"Winning is contagious," said Precourt. "We're looking forward to the next game."
