Industrials Get Clutch Win Versus Philadelphia
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials earned a close win over the Philadelphia Quakers, thanks in part to Roger Long. The Pittsburgh right-hander, who finished 2nd in the NBL in innings pitched with 260.2 in 1969, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. With the win, Pittsburgh upped its record to 20-13.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Lew Ward to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Industrials on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Ward hailed his team's "mettle."
