Knickerbockers Stumble, Lose to Dairymen
|
The inspired effort of New York third baseman Bob Kappen was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-4, to the Milwaukee Dairymen. Kappen was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. Randy Adams got the win, improving to 3-3. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 13 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 4. The triumph puts Milwaukee at 18-15 for the season.
Lewis Smith dealt the Knickerbockers a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Milwaukee leading 5-3, Smith, who finished 5th in the NBL in stolen bases with 24 in 1964, hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single.
"I still think this team can play even better," Smith told the Milwaukee Daily.
