The Chicago Hawks welcomed the Boston Terriers to an night game at Hyde Park Stadium.

The Chicago Hawks withstood an impressive performance by Boston second baseman Roberto Alvarez to defeat the Terriers, 13-8, at Hyde Park Stadium. Alvarez went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ron Woods, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 2-5.

Ron Woods had a big grand slam home run for the Hawks in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago trailing 4-2 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from Nate Edwards, the 8th overall pick in the 1974 draft, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Hawks on top, 6-4.

"We maximized our offense today," said Chicago skipper Mike Flaherty. "That makes everyone's life easier."

With the win over Boston, the Hawks improved to 15-19.
