Gonzalez Helps Bluebirds Beat Knickerbockers, 7-1
|
The Brooklyn Bluebirds defeated the New York Knickerbockers by the score of 7-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to left fielder Oscar Gonzalez. Gonzalez was 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Bluebirds on the day. Picking up the win was Dave Gaultney. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The left--hander struck out 5 and walked 3. The victory makes Brooklyn 2-2.
Dave Gaultney threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball for Brooklyn. The 22-year old left-handed pitcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Bruce Owen. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
Said losing manager Timothy Widholm: "The list goes on and on of things we just flat out didn't do."
