Eagles Win at New York, 5-1
|
The New York Knickerbockers got a sterling performance from pitcher Tim Fried, but the Washington Eagles still prevailed, 5-1. Fried threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Danny Salazar earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. New York falls to 1-3.
Ed Cook had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the top of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Ollie Hundley and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said Cook.
