Packers Suffer 2-1 Road Loss
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters picked up a win at Blockbuster Stadium, dropping the Cincinnati Packers, 2-1. Dario Fontanez, who is tied for 4th in the NBL in complete games with 3, was the difference-maker. Fontanez yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 4-2. By defeating Cincinnati, the 5th-place Blockbusters improved to 16-18.
Duane Kennedy had a big run-scoring double for the Blockbusters in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Erv Koenig, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1964 draft, and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blockbusters ahead, 2-0.
Fontanez said his team "played with a purpose."
