St. Louis Drops Washington in Pitchers' Duel
|
The St. Louis Explorers eked out a 2-1 win versus the Washington Eagles at Monument Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Dave Gilson. He was terrific. Gilson, now 3-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The loss makes Washington 14-20.
Gary Parker, who finished 2nd in the NBL in triples with 11 in 1973, had a direct impact on the outcome. Parker contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fifth inning to put St. Louis up, 2-1.
Parker called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
