Atlanta beat Los Angeles on the strength of starting pitcher Gary Ovitt's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. Getting the save was Ron Winder, his 8th. With the win, Atlanta pushed its record to 21-13.
The Generals had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 5-2, Atlanta, with two out. Los Angeles, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Dwayne Lamons dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch sinker, he flied out.
